Pisan Zapra Journey

Welcome to my blog,

Glad you are here!

We are all told, “live your life to the fullest”; and this is one little step towards that. Pisan Zapra Journey serves as a vessel to share my passions as to what inspires me in this crazy world.

So, sit back, relax, and read on.

Hi there, I'm Yusri

Welcome to my creative canvas, where I put some of my thoughts into perspectives and stories. This is my Pisan Zapra Journey!

Life is a journey filled with lessons, joys, hardships, heartaches, celebrations, and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life.

The road will not always be smooth; in fact, throughout our travels, we will encounter many challenges.

The Story

I was born in the northern district of Borneo Island. Near my hometown, there was an airport where Boeing aircraft used to take off and land. I would watch planes landing and taking off almost every day. When I was 6 years old, my mom took me on a cruise to Indonesia. That was the first time I traveled abroad and saw different parts of the world.

Ironically, I had my first experience on board of an airplane when I was 17. My ultimate destination was Kuala Lumpur because I had been summoned to join the National Service. It was a life-changing experience - away from home and familiar places.

"Pisan zapra," two words that often get lost in translation. The internet has graciously translated it into Malay as "the time needed to eat a banana," essentially meaning "wait a minute" or something that can be done in just 2 minutes.

When I stumbled upon this word, it felt like a perfect fit for the concept of this blog.

Over time, the name Pisan Zapra has stuck around on my social media, all thanks to the wonders of the internet.

Three months after that, I completed the National Service for good. Then, I received an offer to further my studies in college. Not knowing what lay ahead, I took the opportunity to study a bit farther away from the sleepy town where I grew up.

Five years later, I completed my degree in BBA (Hons) International Business with a Fast-Track Program Diploma in Banking. Like other graduates, I couldn't wait to venture into the industry and kick-start my career. A week after the graduation ceremony, I received an offer to work as an Events and Projects Executive in one of the conglomerate companies in Kuala Lumpur.

Regularly, this blog will cover travel stories, tricks, and tips. Simply anything that runs through my mind that I think worth sharing.

TBeyond these written tales, this blog aspires to serve as an ongoing source of inspiration for new and seasoned travelers alike. Let's keep those destination dreams alive, and let's keep ticking off those bucket list items. After all, the world is vast and beautiful, and it would be a great pity not to explore it while we have the chance.

Fast forward > A few years later, I wondered what was behind all these daily 9-to-6 routines. I went out missing the sunrise and came back home, pondering the sunset. I had 14 days of standard annual leave like everyone else. With that, I bought my first solo backpacking ticket to Cambodia, on a mission to see the amazing Angkor Wat and the pristine island of Koh Rong. It was scary to do it solo at first, but it was all worth it.

I remember how much I struggled to convince myself initially; my self-introvert personality hated the idea every time I pictured it in my mind. I never knew how much I liked the idea of backpacking until I tried it for the first time. From that point, the list goes on; an unexpected camel ride in India, a diving experience in the open ocean, and a solo party with 40,000 people on the same shoreline.

Eventually, I met many like-minded people, and we traveled together on and off. You don't need to be rich to start traveling; a shoestring budget can go far if planned properly—one step at a time.
